Predictive Factors of Stages of Change in Hookah Smoking Cessation Among Iranian Adults Based on the Transtheoretical Model

Background: Hookah, as a traditional method of smoking, is widely used in Iran, especially Bushehr province. It essential to identify the most important determinants modifying hookah smoking behavior. This study aimed investigate predictors stages change quitting 15-60-year-old individuals province, southern based on transtheoretical model (TTM). Methods: descriptive-analytical was conducted 1173 Hookah smokers The samples were selected by two-stage random sampling from 10 cities. Data collected using valid and reliable questionnaire consisting 5 sections (demographic characteristics, change, processes decisional balance, self-efficacy). analyzed R version.3.3.1 analysis variance ordinal logistic regression at significant level 0.05. Findings: data revealed 82% participants preparatory phase (55.3% pre-contemplation 26.7% contemplation stages). Marital status, family members hookah, cigarette education, number members, attempts, self-efficacy, self-reevaluation, counter-conditioning, reinforcement management, stimulus control smoking. Conclusion: Given that inactive it seems necessary design implement behavioral interventions predictive TTM constructs this population.
